Acrylic Paints Tubes
I can't use oils. It takes too long for them to dry. Sometimes it never does really. I need things now. I have a short attention span and I want completion. I want finished pieces that I can look at and be proud of. I mostly use acrylic paints tubes for this. That way, I can work on a project until it's done. I can sit there for thirty hours if I have to. Until I fall over on my stool. Until the piece makes me satisfied. Not that I ever really am. But you just learn that eventually you just have to call something "done" and let that be that.

I don't think that any artist is ever really happy with their work. It’s something ingrained in all of us. Maybe the ones that flip open their acrylic paints tubes and dab it on canvas quickly. The ones tha have that system down. But are you an artist if you have a system? Does everyone develop one sooner or later? Maybe I'm just making things harder on myself with my own stupid philosophy. When I get my acrylic paints tubes laid out and my brushes ready to go, I have no fast system. Whatever I create, I always put everything I have into it. I sit there and I give myself to the canvas. Sometimes, I wish I had some sort of way of doing things where I could just whip something up real fast for a job. But I'm afraid that, that's all it would be for me then - just a job. Then it would feel meaningless.
So there's the question. Why open the acrylic paints tubes at all? Are you in it for the money or in it for the love? I think every person, and especially the creative one's has to answer this question eventually. Because the two things don't always go together. Sometimes it's a defiite choice that you have to make between them. As for me, I'm still trying to balance them both out. Whenever I put those acrylic paints tubes to work, I want it to mean something. But sacrificing some of that for speed is very tempting these days. I need to eat too, don't I? And what about the long run? I want to get married some day. I want to have kids. Will it all change then, even if I do hold out for that long? I think having people really depend on you makes everything different. Makes you do things in ways that you wouldn't just for yourself. So, am I holding out just to eventually give in anyway? Maybe that's where luck comes in. I guess the bottom line is that as long as I can support myself and eventually my family with the things I create with acrylic paints tubes then I;m happy. Even if somewhere along the way I have to change the way I do things to accomplish it. Maybe that's just part of growing up.
